What we do

The Green Room is a place of community, solidarity, inspiration and creativity, and a place of encounter. It promotes international dialogue and exchange and gives hope not only to the participants, but also to society in general.
— Dr. Roman Luckscheiter, Secretary-General of the German Commission for UNESCO

The Green Room is a space for reflection, support, and recalibration - created by and for artists.

We offer artist-centered psychological counseling, advocacy, and reliable information to support the well-being and professional sustainability of performing artists. Through one-on-one sessions, small-group offerings, workshops, residencies and collaborative projects, we create space for artistic lives to be lived with greater clarity, care, and continuity.

We work with musicians, dancers, theater-makers, circus artists, cultural workers and others working in or around the performing arts — especially those navigating periods of personal, professional, or political upheaval.

Why Artists Come to Us

Some artists reach out because something has shifted or broken down. They may be burned out, creatively blocked, struggling with performance anxiety, or recovering from a career-impacting injury. Others are rethinking their careers, facing difficult decisions, or seeking support in a time of transition.

Some are managing the long-term effects of instability — displacement, financial precarity, systemic exclusion — and need a place to process and reorient. Others come with a clear sense of direction, but want to care for their artistic lives with greater intention, presence, and connection.

We meet artists wherever they are — with curiosity, confidentiality, and respect.

Who We Are

Each counselor, collaborator, or mentor at The Green Room brings a unique combination of psychological or somatic expertise and lived experience in the performing arts. We believe this integration is essential: our work is grounded in practice, not just theory.

We understand that artistry and health are interwoven. We know the costs of over-identification, overwork, and invisibility. And we remain committed to building structures of care that acknowledge both the vulnerability and vitality of creative lives.

What We Offer

  • Psychological counseling — confidential, artist-informed support for personal, creative, and professional challenges

  • Advocacy and information sharing — on rights, resources, and systemic conditions affecting artists

  • Workshops and collaborations — offering space for shared learning, creative exchange, or deeper reflection

  • Partnership projects — with networks, institutions, and communities engaged in artist well-being and systemic change

  • GreenHaven Artist Residencies - GreenHaven is a small and responsive residency program for artists in acute need of support, time, and space. These short-term residencies are offered when resources allow — often in collaboration with local and international partners — and are designed for those leaving dangerous, unsustainable, or transitional circumstances.
