The Book of Sirens

A performance of Art Shelter/ProEnglish Theatre from Kyiv, Ukraine

The Book of Sirens was created in ProEnglish Theatre, the theatre that transformed into a bomb shelter in March 2022 in Kyiv. It became an international symbol of cultural resistance.

It promotes culture as a main weapon in the fight for basic human values.

The story is partly based on “the Book Thief” by Markus Zusak and “Forgotten we Shall Be” by Héctor Abad Faciolince. The show also aims to memorialize the experience of the theatre team’s life in bomb shelter in March and share it with the world in order to create a better understanding of each other.

The Book of Sirens was premiered in Kyiv 9th of April with 15 people watching it in the shelter and thousands watching it online.

The international premiere happened in Bilbao, Span, 2nd of May.

The show is currently touring in Germany in order to continue its mission of raising awareness about the war in Ukraine started by the terrorist state of Russia. The show is 30 min. long. It also includes the photo exposition before the show and the discussion of the artistic team with the audience after the show.
